China Mobile and SK Telecom successfully demonstrated the world's first cross-border 4G VoLTE (Voice over Long-Term Evolution) high-definition audio and video call on two different networks last week, as reported by The Electronic Times in Korea on November 18. Adopting Huawei's 4G network equipment and Samsung's smartphone, China Mobile made a phone call in Chengdu on the TD-LTE (Time Division LTE) network, and connected to the FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplexing LTE) network of SK Telecom. The success of the trial opens the door to international VoLTE roaming services, which are expected to be launched after 2014, according to the report.
